PTBO Chiro, Dr Doug explaining vertebrae

ARE YOU SUFFERING FROM BACK PAIN IN PETERBOROUGH?

Are you suffering from acute or chronic back pain? Is it affecting your ability to work, sleep or do the things you love? Chiropractic care may be the answer. Dr Doug Lukinuk (Dr. Doug) and his caring team of wellness specialists at PTBO Chiro will evaluate and assess your pain and develop a treatment plan just for you. Back pain is among the most common chronic conditions. 4 out of 5 Canadians will experience it in their life. The symptoms commonly surface between the ages of 30 and 50 and equally affect both the men and women of Peterborough. Back pain can have a major effect on your quality of life.

Although a leading cause of disability and missed work, back pain also interferes with day to day activities, sleep and family commitments. While medication can be a first line of defence in dealing with acute or chronic pain, it doesn’t address the cause of the problem and is not the best strategy for preventing future episodes. Seeking prompt chiropractic treatment can prevent unnecessary pain and suffering.  More importantly, chiropractic treatment can prevent your back pain from becoming a chronic problem. Dr.Doug and the staff at PTBO Chiro have helped many people living in the Peterborough area get relief.

Here are some common symptoms of back pain – if you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed below or have high, mid or low back pain in any form, please feel free to Contact Us to discuss some potential treatment options.

WHY DO I HAVE BACK PAIN?

This is an excellent question. We know that one of the most common causes of back pain are disc problems – particularly in the lower back. Herniated or bulging discs irritate the nerves that travel from the spinal cord. Leg Pain, numbness, tingling or weakness in the legs may be the result of disc irritation.  Herniated or bulging discs may be very painful or go unnoticed by the patient depending on the extent to which nerves are being impinged on. In either case, is important to address the issue and prevent further damage and potential surgery.

A visit to PTBO Chiro and a spinal exam will help ensure that this issue gets addressed correctly. Another common cause of back problems are muscle strains and sprains. These commonly occur as on-the-job injuries caused by heavy lifting or engaging in an awkward repetitive motion. Other frequent causes are sports injury, stress, long periods of sitting or in-activity – all of these things can cause misalignment of the spine and subsequent back pain. These conditions often respond well to qualified Chiropractic treatment.

WHO IS AT RISK FOR BACK PAIN?

With 4 out of 5 of us being affected at some point in our lives – it’s likely that a member of your family or a friend in Peterborough has had to endure the agony or discomfort of back pain. Many of them will have sought relief through Chiropractic care. It may seem like you are destined to suffer  – there are, however, certain risk factors that make it more likely-

  • Age. Back pain gets more common as you get older
  • Lack of Exercise. Weak, unused muscles in your back and stomach don’t support your spine properly
  • Excess Weight.  Extra pounds put additional stress on your back
  • Diseases.  Some kinds of arthritis and cancer can contribute to back pain
  • Improper Lifting. Using your back instead of your legs to lift heavy objects
  • Mental Health issues. People prone to depression and anxiety appear to have a higher risk of back pain
  • Smoking. Smokers have increased rates of back pain potentially because of coughing, which can lead to herniated discs. Smoking also decreases blood flow to the spine and increases the risk of osteoporosis

In spite of the fact that back pain is a very common health issue (second only to the common cold) many of us are suffering needlessly. The team at PBTO Chiro care can help get you back to doing the things you enjoy – faster, pain-free and drug-free. Begin your road to recovery. Contact Us Today.
